What is your name, and where are you based? What inspired you to become a Strength & Conditioning Coach and Fitness Instructor?

I’m Jason Spencer based in NYC… What inspired me to become a Strength & Conditioning Coach was my experiences with it growing up. I was into sports through college and always loved how it felt to train, push, and better myself! I knew I wanted to be responsible for creating that feeling in others.

Tell us about your experience as a Strength & Conditioning Coach and Fitness Instructor.

I’ve been a fitness coach for 15 years now, and I’ve enjoyed the tasks and responsibilities that have come with being charged with helping others find their best selves. It’s been very challenging and humbling and proud, stimulating, and rewarding from the happiness I’ve seen clients find. I’ve met countless great people and even gotten married, and made close friends throughout my career!

What is your approach to coaching? Do you have a particular style or method?

My approach and style of coaching is a blend of great science and tapping into clients’ self-competitiveness. I like to motivate through the appreciation of effort.

I focus my fitness and wellness philosophy on believing that you should value dedication over the result. Why? Because committing to the work and enjoying the fact that you’re willing fuels success.

What do you like to do in your free time when you’re not coaching?

I love to watch movies, barbecue, drink beer with my wife, family, and friends, enjoy cigars and laugh.

How do you de-stress?

Exercise is my go-to for destressing. Though I often look at ways to build on self-improvement. For example, I will look at a plan of action to help me save money or brainstorm new business ideas.

What do you enjoy most about coaching through the Verb platform?

I enjoy the fast-paced nature and small quick bits of advice I can frequently assist several people with at one time! There is a significant teaching opportunity with it as well that stimulates me. It means a lot to the members of the platform, which is rewarding.

What’s your theme/goal for 2021?

The goal for 2021 is the same one I have in a workout or life. Every day always be trying to be better than your last moment. Work smart and help people as much as I can.

What’s your favorite recipe or the food you enjoy most?

I enjoy any form of chocolate more than anything dessert-wise. I love steak, sausages, and game meats most in terms of food.
