What is your name, and where are you based?

Hey there. I’m Jacob Zemer — my friends call me Jake. I live in Larchmont, NY. Outside of New York City.

What inspired you to become a fitness coach and personal trainer?

Fitness is a personal passion of mine. I not only enjoy developing and demonstrating it. I love learning about it and coaching it. People approached me or asked me questions about fitness all the time, even before my career. It just seemed a very natural fit.

Tell us about your experience as a personal trainer.

I am a result-based trainer. I love working with clients who want a real change and want to transform their lives and their relationship with their bodies and attitudes toward fitness and health.

I have a very close relationship with my clients, but they also know I am all business. I love my job.

What is your approach to coaching? Do you have a particular style or method?

I focus on high volume weight training centering around compound movements, reducing calories and maintaining protein, and adequate cardio. I have rules, and you will follow them. As long as you do that, I am very open to you doing your best and center around progress, not perfection.

What’s the best piece of health or wellness advice you have received?

To center choices around sustainability. That is more about time management and structure than motivation and discipline.

What do you like to do in your free time when you’re not coaching?

I adore my dog Puddin. I spend a lot of my free time with him hiking, walking trails, and cuddling him.

How do you stay motivated and accountable?

I genuinely love exercise and seeing progress in my body and fitness. I center my training and nutrition around focusing on the trademark elements like calories, protein, healthy fats, getting blood work done frequently, and quality sleep. I don’t worry about the little things.

Tell us about your morning routine.

I wake up at 4 am, pack my bag with meals for the day, take medication/supplements, walk my dog, and start working with clients at 5 am.

What do you enjoy most about coaching through the Verb platform?

Verb helps me give clients a superior level of accountability. It allows me to be more efficient at managing clients and their needs. I can spend my time coaching clients rather than chasing them for information I need to coach them in the first place.

What’s your favorite recipe or the food you enjoy most?

My favorite “healthy foods” are salmon, lean steak, bison with some rice or vegetables. My favorite “cheat meal” maybe once every two weeks is penne cooked in an irresponsible amount of kosher salt, with an effortless, homemade tomato-based red sauce that is relatively healthy.
